The benefits of team building

It goes without saying, at TeambuildingGuide we believe in the power of team events. But what are the advantages of organising a team building? We list some of the arguments.

You make time for each other

During a team building all employees have an empty agenda. On that day, you won’t have to think about deadlines or an ever-growing to-do list. A team building is a relaxed group moment where everyone gets the chance to get to know each other as individuals and as a group.

During a team building activity, colleagues from different departments, with different tasks and from all layers of your company work together. Any hierarchy and ingrained patterns disappear, allowing team members to get to know each other better. The positive result: more understanding for the other and thus better cooperation.

Keeping talent in-house

Involvement ensures commitment. Colleagues who feel at home in their workplace and experience a sense of belonging are less likely to look for another challenge. So organising a team building on a regular basis helps to keep good employees on board.

Insight into qualities

A good team building is about cooperation. Everyone’s contribution is needed to bring the activity to a successful conclusion. By working together in the relaxed setting of a team building, you learn more about each other’s strengths and about your own qualities.

Strengthening communication

Working together also means communicating. However, the communication pattern changes as soon as a game element is added. The inner drive to succeed in the game makes for more spontaneous communication, both verbal and non-verbal.

Strengthening communication is not only about how you communicate, but also with whom. A good team building activity ensures that you also talk to colleagues with whom you otherwise have little contact.

Practising cooperation

During a team building activity, various tasks have to be carried out. Team members learn to rely on each other and on themselves to make the activity a success. You practice, as it were (on a small, manageable scale), what you also do in your regular work environment: you focus on the same goal, draw up a plan together, get to know each other’s strengths and practice working together.
